PaidLooka Review: An AI Logo Maker That Grew Up Into a Brand Kit
Most AI logo makers feel like a slot machine — you pull the lever, designs spill out, and you hope one of them is usable. Looka started life that way too, but it has spent the better part of a decade turning that one-pull novelty into something closer to a starter branding service. Whether that's worth paying for depends a lot on what you actually need past the logo itself.

From Logojoy to Looka
Looka isn't new. It launched in 2016 as Logojoy, an AI-powered logo creator that became a minor legend in the indie-maker world — its founder publicly documented growing it to around $15,000 a month in its early days, and the project drew a 1,000-plus-point Hacker News thread off the back of that transparency. In 2019 the company rebranded to Looka. That switch wasn't smooth: trade outlet BetaKit reported the rebrand initially cut revenue roughly in half and led to layoffs.
I mention this not to dredge up old bad news, but because it explains the product you see today. Looka survived a near-death rebrand and came out the other side as a going concern — its site now carries a 2025 copyright and claims more than 20 million small-business owners served. For a category littered with abandoned tools and parked domains, "still here and iterating after nine years" is a real point in its favor.
What it actually does
The core loop is simple. You type in your company name, answer a few questions about your industry and the styles and colors you like, optionally pick a couple of symbols you're drawn to, and Looka's AI generates a wall of logo options in seconds. From there you drop into an editor to nudge colors, symbols, fonts, layout, and sizing until something clicks.

The genuinely useful part is what happens after the logo. Looka's Brand Kit takes your finished logo, colors, and fonts and auto-generates 300-plus matching assets — business cards, social profiles and posts, email signatures, letterheads, invoices, and a brand-guidelines sheet. If you've ever started a business and immediately hit the wall of "now I need a business card, and a LinkedIn banner, and an invoice template, and they should all look like they belong together," this is the part that earns its keep. There's also a Brand Kit tier that adds an AI-generated website.
A nice touch in the buying flow: it's free to generate and preview logos. You only pay when you've found one you want to download, so you're not gambling your money on whether the AI will produce anything you like.
Pricing, and the $20 trap
Looka keeps the menu short, which is refreshing, but the cheapest option is a bit of a trap worth flagging up front.
| Plan | Cost | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Logo | $20, one-time | A single low-resolution PNG |
| Premium Logo | $65, one-time | High-res PNG, EPS, SVG, PDF; color/transparent variations; full ownership; unlimited edits; lifetime support |
| Brand Kit | $96/year | The logo plus 300+ branded templates and assets |
| Brand Kit + Web | $129/year | Everything above, plus an AI-generated website |
The $20 Basic package gets you one low-res PNG and nothing else — no vector files, which means no clean scaling for signage, embroidery, or print. For most real businesses that's a false economy; the $65 Premium tier, with its vector formats and the right to keep editing your logo, is the one most buyers will actually want. The annual Brand Kit only makes sense if you'll use the wider asset library, and it's a subscription, not a one-time fee — though Looka is clear that you keep ownership of your logo even after the subscription lapses. Payment is by major card or PayPal (Discover isn't accepted).
What independent users say
Looka is one of the most-reviewed tools in its category, and the picture is mostly — but not uniformly — positive.
On Trustpilot it holds about 4.4 out of 5 across roughly 13,000–14,000 reviews, with recurring praise for ease of use, the professional look of the output, and a responsive support team. That's a large, consistent sample. G2 tells a cooler story — around 2.7 out of 5, though from only about 16 reviews, a sample small enough that I'd weight it lightly. Treat the Trustpilot consensus as the signal and G2 as a footnote.
The most consistent criticism across sources is limited customization. Because the AI anchors your designs to the first few questions and symbols you pick, some users feel boxed in — once the algorithm has decided on a direction, there's only so far you can steer it, and a few reviewers describe the results as polished but a touch generic. If you have a precise visual idea in your head, that constraint will frustrate you faster than it will a first-time founder who just wants something clean and done.
Who it's a good fit for
Looka makes the most sense for early-stage founders, solo operators, and small businesses who need a credible brand quickly and don't have the budget — or the time — for a freelance designer or an agency. The Brand Kit, in particular, is aimed squarely at the person who needs a coherent set of marketing materials on day one rather than just a logo file.
It's a weaker fit if you need a truly bespoke, ownable mark — a distinctive identity that won't share DNA with other AI-generated logos — or if you work in a field where trademark distinctiveness matters. Looka itself notes that you own your logo as a whole but not the individual elements like symbols, and it sensibly points users toward a local trademark office if legal protection is the goal. That's an honest disclosure, and it's the right thing to evaluate before you commit a brand to it.
The verdict
Looka is a competent, fairly priced way to get from "I have a business name" to "I have a logo and a stack of matching marketing assets" in an afternoon. It won't replace a designer for anyone who needs something singular, and the $20 entry tier is best ignored in favor of Premium. But for the millions of small businesses it's actually built for, the combination of a fast logo generator and an unusually practical Brand Kit is a reasonable deal — and the company's nine-year track record, rocky patches included, suggests it'll still be around to support what you make.
