Chatsimple review: the SMB chatbot that became Expertise AI

3.0 / 5

If you saved Chatsimple a year ago as a cheap, set-and-forget website chatbot, the link will take you somewhere different now. Chatsimple has been rolled into a new product called Expertise AI, and the shift is more than a new logo. The tool that once pitched itself to solo founders and small shops has grown into a B2B "demand conversion" platform, and that changes who it's really for.

Where Chatsimple started

Chatsimple came out of a credible background. Founder Hao Sheng previously worked on Dialogflow, Google's chatbot builder, and launched Chatsimple in mid-2023 as a round-the-clock AI assistant aimed squarely at startups, independent creators, and small e-commerce businesses. The pitch was simple: answer visitor questions instantly at any hour, in 175+ languages, and nudge people toward booking a meeting or buying. It connected to HubSpot, Salesforce, and Zapier, so captured leads landed where sales teams already worked. In late 2024 the team added a real-time voice agent, letting visitors talk to the bot instead of typing.

That early positioning matters, because it's the part that has changed most.

What it does as Expertise AI

Expertise AI's Chatsimple page still calls it demand conversion AI, though the main site now pitches the product more broadly as enterprise AI agents for sales and customer experience (sales, CX, and custom agents). The website-conversion workflow is organized around four jobs: engage visitors with agentic (rather than scripted) conversations, qualify and score leads with reusable "playbooks," enrich each lead with visitor intelligence, and hand qualified prospects off to the right rep. The visitor identification feature tries to attach a name, email, LinkedIn profile, company, and an ICP fit score to anonymous traffic. Voice AI, HubSpot ticketing, an analytics dashboard, and native meeting booking round it out.

If you were already a Chatsimple customer, the migration looks well handled. The vendor says existing accounts are redirected automatically, log in with the same credentials, and keep their past chats, configuration, and integrations, with no migration fee. Your live agent and its setup carry over. For once, a rebrand doesn't seem to mean rebuilding from scratch.

Pricing moved behind a demo

Here's the change most likely to matter to readers of a tool directory. Chatsimple used to be self-serve, with plans you could read and pay for on the spot. Expertise AI's pricing page now lists three tiers — Premier, Enterprise, and Unlimited — and every one of them ends in "Book a demo." There are no published prices. The company frames this as building a plan around how you intend to adopt AI, with higher tiers adding dedicated infrastructure, open-weight model support, data residency, and forward-deployed engineers.

You can still start for free without a card to try an agent, so the door isn't fully closed. But the transparent monthly plans that made Chatsimple approachable for a one-person business are gone, replaced by a sales conversation. If you like knowing the number before you commit, that's a real step backward.

Who it fits now

Expertise AI is aimed at B2B teams that run on HubSpot, have deal sizes big enough to justify sales-led pricing, and want visitor intelligence and voice built into their pipeline rather than bolted on. The site positions the product against tools like RB2B, Warmly, Leadfeeder, Qualified, and Drift, which tells you the room it now wants to compete in. If that's your setup, the HubSpot-native ticketing and lead routing are genuinely useful.

The people it fits less well are the ones it started with. A solo creator or small store looking for an affordable always-on chatbot is no longer the target customer, and the demo-gated pricing makes that clear before you even sign up.

The honest verdict

The strengths are real: a founder who has built this kind of software before, a coherent feature set, multilingual support, native CRM integration, and a voice agent that not every competitor offers. The vendor's own case studies report solid numbers — one utility, Circuit Electric, is credited with cutting support tickets by around 30%, with measurable impact within 60 days, and Expertise AI cites customers reporting large lifts in chat-to-lead conversion. Those are the company's figures, not independent audits, so weigh them accordingly.

The caveats are just as real. Independent validation is thin: Chatsimple has no reviews on Capterra yet, and its Hacker News launches drew little discussion, so most of the social proof is first-party. The pricing opacity means you can't compare it on cost without a call. And tracking a product through a name change is its own small friction when you're trying to research it.

Overall: 3/5. Expertise AI is a capable agent platform, but the opaque, sales-led pricing and thin independent track record hold back what is otherwise a solid offering — especially for the small teams the original Chatsimple courted.
